Sanderson
I am researching the family tree of my grandfather, Walter Edwin
Sanderson, b.1889 in East Heslerton, son of William Hedley Sanderson
and Margaret Ann Barker. William b. about 1855 in Cayton, was the
son of Robert Sanderson and Mary ; Margaret Ann, b. Sept. 2, 1862
in Brompton, was the daughter of Edward Barker and Margaretta Jepson.
William and Margaret had at least 12 children; Thomas William, b.1879
; Robert Edward, b.1880; Annie Elizabeth, b.1882; Margaretta, b.1884
; Elise M, b.1885; Charles Jepson, b.1886 ;Mary Edith, b.1887;Walter
Edwin; Ernest Arthur, b.1891; Kate Eliza (Kit, b.1893 ; Donald, b. 1899 ; (John)
Geofffey, b, about1905. Kate /Kit married John Flood,had a son,Charles, and
lived in York. Charles married three times and apparently had a farm near Hackness.
Elsie lived in Ganton. There was also another child, Ella, who was supposedly
an adopted daughter but is shown as a granddaughter of William and Margaret
in the 1901 census; she married and lived in Northallerton. If anyone has any
information I would love to hear from them as I have no connections with any
members of the Sanderson family.

Sharp / Sharpe
I am looking for the deaths of Joseph Sharp/Sharpe (b. Leeds abt
1835) and his wife Sarah Burdon Sharp/Sharpe (b. Hutton Rudby
abt 1837; dau of Simeon Burdon and 2nd wife Sarah Ward, married
1824). Joseph and Sarah were married in 1858 in Hartlepool. They
had 12 children, 9 of whom lived to travel with the family to
Australia in 1883 then on to the Hawaiian Islands in the 1890s;
some returned to Yorkshire, one returned to Australia, some stayed
in the Hawaiian Islands, and some went on to California and Arkansas
in the US. Joseph and Sarah were in the Hawaiian Islands until
about 1902 or 1903, when they "went home to Leeds".
We believe they were still in the Leeds area at the turn of the
year 1909-1910, but have lost them after that. We think a brother
of Sarah Burdon Sharp/Sharpe was in Huddersfield about 1904 but
haven't yet traced that line. We think his name was C. S. Burdon.
Children of Joseph and Sarah were Sarah, Alice E., Grace Margaret,
Lilian Josephine, Augustus Peabody, Cecil E.B., Robert William,
Florence B., and Joseph Harold. Grace and Lily returned to Yorkshire;
we have their information, as well as the other children. Looking
mainly for the deaths of the parents Joseph and Sarah Burdon

Shearman
I am trying to do my husband's father's family tree and it is proving to
be very difficult. His name was Noel Leslie Shearman and he was born in Sheffield
in I think 1908. Some of his siblings went to Canada. He went left for Chile.
I would like to hear from anybody who might be able to help.

Shearman
Shearman, Shearwin, Sherwin! Do any of the surnames mean anything to you? I
am searching for descendants who share the various recorded spellings of this
family. They lived in and around Harewood, Kirkby Overblow, Long Marston and
Hutton Wandsley. I welcome any correspondence of relationship with this family.

Sheffield / Sutton
I am looking for information on the Sheffield family from the
Huttons Ambo/Malton area. William Sheffield (b. 1762) married Sophia
Ward (b. 1762). They had several children. My ancestor is their
son, Thomas B Sheffield (b. 1797). He emigrated to the US (first
Kentucky, later New York) about 1819. His oldest brother was William
Sheffield (b. 1787). He stayed in Yorkshire and was a surgeon.
He eventually moved to Farmanby. Thomas had a sister, Sophia Sheffield
(b. 1799), who also emigrated to New York. She never married and
became a naturalized US citizen (fairly rare for a woman at that
time). Her occupation on a US census is listed as "lady".
Another brother (? unsure of their relationship), Richard H Sheffield
(b. 1789), came to New York around 1819. Another sister, Elizabeth
Sheffield (b. 1791) married a William Robinson (b. 1786) and emigrated
to New York with their 6 children. Another sister, Sarah Sheffield
(b. 1793) married a Robert Sutton (b. 1790). They stayed in Yorkshire,
but their children emigrated to New York.
To the best of my knowledge, this family was associated with the
parish church of St. Michaels, Old Malton. Any info would be greatly
appreciated. I'm hoping to make a trip to Yorkshire from the US
next summer. I'd love to have a firm grasp of where to start my
research.

I would like to contact descendents of Susan Smith (nee Sutcliffe)
who was born in 1815 and died in 1913 at Calder Bank, Hebden Bridge,
and is buried in Heptonstall churchyard. She was my great grandmother’s
aunt and had a very long an eventful life, sailing to New Zealand
in 1854. She and her husband, Thomas, returned to England in 1861
after skirmishes in the Maori Wars. They later returned to New
Plymouth (Taranaki) where Thomas died in 1893. Susan continued
to sail between New Zealand and England for many years.
I have original photos, newspaper cuttings etc,
and one being an account of Mrs.Smith’s funeral. Named mourners
are:- her nephew W H Smith, Tom and Clara, Mrs John Uttley, her
nieces at Calder Bank (one named Mrs J H Parker).
It would be great to share these with any of Mrs
Smith’s
descendents, one of whom is John Sutcliffe whose last known address
was 21 Greenacres Avenue, Shelf, Halifax.

Stables and Barker
I am looking for information on this family. John Barker married Mary Stables in about 1825; they were both born about 1804-1806. Their children were Ann, born 1826; William born 1827; twins Benjamin and Johnathan born 1836; and twins Jane and Sarah born 1839. In the 1841 census the family was living in Bramley (civil parish), Leeds Borough, Yorkshire in the subregistration district of Kirkstall on Killingsbeck's Yard. John Barker's profession was in clothery. It says they were all born in Yorkshire. I found a John Barker christened in Dobcross, Yorkshire on 12 Aug 1804 with parents William Barker and Ann. I don't know how to prove or disprove if this is my John Barker or not. I have found all of the chilren's birth dates on the LDS website. One of the twin daughter's, Sarah, was born in Horsforth on 6 Aug 1838.
The entire family emigrated to the US and John Barker and Mary Stables are found in Akron, Ohio in the 1850 census. Daughter Ann has married Daniel Priest and is living in Wisconsin. The other children are either living in Akron or with Ann Barker Priest.
Is anyone researching this family in England? Does anyone have any hints as to where I might search next? I have more information after they came to the US but am looking for additional information in England.
