My maternal grandmother was born Rosa Parker in 1863. She was
the youngest of ten girls born to George and Emily Parker of
Grange
Farm, which I think was near Whitley or Grange Moor. She was
married to John Edward Smithson, son of James Edward and Harriet
Smithson
of Huddersfield on 24.12.1885 at Kirkheaton Parish Church.
They were master plumbers and I believe both father and son
were killed
in a gas explosion on 3 May 1902. Subsequently she married
John Cawood, born circa 1848, possibly from Leeds. I have no
information
about the Parkers, Smithsons or Cawoods prior to this. Of the
ten sisters, one, Martha, married Mr Beatson and had a daughter,
Beatrice.
Another had a daughter who married a Mr Sheard. I would welcome
any information.

Following on from Mark Webster's previous entry, I would like to add some more detailed information.
My father, Stewart Challenger Peacock, was a fisherman on deep sea trawlers sailing from Hull until 1979. His spells of fishing inshore from Bridlington were intermittent, as were my own.
My mother, Iris Moreen Peacock (née Haverson) met my father while he was in the Royal Navy. He held the rank of Petty Officer, Gunnery Instructor, and at the time was based at Whale Island Gunnery School. My mother was working in the NAAFI on the base. This is where they met. My mother's family were from Lowestoft in Suffolk (not Norfolk).

Glasgow moved to Bridlington from Glasgow with his parents. He
married a
lady from Norfolk Iris Haverson - how she came to be in
Bridlington or how they met is unknown! Both Stewart and his father
are reported by family as being fishermen on trawlers based in
Bridlington. Stewart and Iris had children in Bridlington, one
of who is my mother-in-law (Meril Alison Peacock)
Stewart's parents were: John Challenger Peacock and Florence Grimshaw
bmd's unknown.
Family history recounts another son William Peacock
died in battle on 07/07/1917 serving 2nd Btn Gordon Highlanders
and
is buried
in war graves at St Sever. Although the memorial certificate
states Mr & Mrs Thomas Peacock as the parents!

One of my wife’s descendants is Rhoda Peacock – born
1826 in Grinton, Yorkshire. She married William Lodge
on 24th May 1847 in Manchester Cathedral. Rhoda’s parents
were Mark Peacock – born 11th May 1787
in Grinton, Yorkshire, who married Jane Spensley also
from Grinton. Family folk-law says that Rhoda was in some way
linked to the Beyer-Peacock engineering company in Manchester,
England.

1778. I have come across qute a few Pearsons from Loughton en
le Morthen. Nicholas Pearson's 1672 he lived in Laughton en le
Morthen and is mentioned in the history of the village as being
heavily taxed for having 14 hearths. He had a son John but cannot
prove its the John above. William Hunt Pearson took over the
shipbuilding Business and moved to Hull. Robert Pearson his elder
brother, and who I am related to, moved to London to look after
Stanton's Wharfe the london end of the business. I would love
to hear from anybody who may be connected with this family.

I am looking for ancestors, descendants or any information regarding Bartholomew Pickard (1833-1909). He was born in West Burton, near Leyburn. I believe his father may have been Thomas (born 1791 at Carlton Highdale). In 1861 Bartholomew lived with his wife, Francis, and two children, Mary, aged four and Joseph, aged one, in Morpeth, Northumberland. At this time Bartholomew was a gateman and porter at Longhirst & Old Moor Station. Francis was born in Bellerby, near Leyburn, in about 1832.

I found that my Grandfather George Ripon Piggott and his older brother William
Robert. According to the 1881 census they were both in Sculcoates Workhouse.
I don't have any idea how long they were there for and where they went from

I am researching my family history and I have come up to a brick wall!
My mother, Margaret Isles (neé Grimshaw), was born in Birkenshaw. Her mother, Mabel Grimshaw (neé Powell), was born in the Birkenshaw area. Mabel had one brother called Frederick Powell, born 1888, also born in the Birkenshaw area.
I cannot find any details of what happened to Frederick. I believe he may have been killed in action in WW1.
He married a Bertha Faulkner in 1910 and they had one daughter, Sybil, who married a Laurence Crossley in 1934. Sybil had 2 sons.
I lost touch with Sybil and her family in the late 1950s and have no knowledge of their whereabouts.

Fermon might well be Fermanagh, but later census records say
Fermon. The marriage took place in Northern Ireland in 1856.

Purnell
I am looking for descendants of or information about the Purnells who moved to South Kirkby sometime in the 1880s.
Joseph Purnell was a gamekeeper, born Sherston in Wiltshire & his wife, Mary Anne (nee Griffiths) was Welsh. They had 5 surviving children: Agnes Anne (married name Woodall), Selina (married Albert Uphill), Herbert (married Charlotte poss. Sidwell), Bertha Maria (married Frederick Hanley) & Lucy (married Herbert Massey).
My great grandmother (Bertha) died shortly after the birth of my grandfather & the only photo we had was long ago stolen in a burglary. I would love to know if anyone still has any family photos.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone with information about, or who is related to my father, Gunner John Channings Pyle, who died 26th May 1941 in North Africa. His father was William Edgar and his mother Faith Pyle née Thompson. I believe he had a sister, Hilda, who had children.
