Help please! I am trying to find any information at all about my Great Grandmother
Mary Ann (Polly) Littlewood. She lived in the Almshouses at Dewsbury. She had
2 children, my Grandmother, born about 1910 ish, who I think was christened
Fanny, but changed her name to Geraldine. I know Geraldine had a brother, but
don't even know his name. Geraldine married Ernest Mail, who I believe came
from Huddersfield, he was certainly a proud Yorkshireman. They had a son Gerald,
my father, born c.1927. He went to Almondbury Grammar School (now King James'
School), and trained as a pharmacist, moving to London. I remember a Great
Uncle Gilbert Yates being mentioned when I was a child, who was said to be
a Don at Cambridge. I have tried really hard to find information in the birth,
marriage and death internet records and a genealogy site, about all of them
but have drawn complete blanks. I have no documents or accurate dates for any
of them and know so little about them. I would be very grateful indeed for
any information at all.

My great grand parents used to run the chip shop in Ingleton, my
grandad Edward the only child (eddie) I think sold it 79/80.
I can still remember the lovely pictures etc, he also told me
about a kind lady (relative) who ran a chip shop in Liverpool.
I always wondered if the fish shop was in the family prior to
this as the house and bedrooms ran across the top of the bank
etc next door, what naughty things children get up to with two
sets of stairs! I went back several years ago and the orchards
etc have all gone, that I remember playing in. I remember my
Nan telling me about taking her children to meet Eddie's grandmother,
a frightening figure for her.... dressed in black with a starched
white cap on sat as straight as a rod !would she be Jack or Flos
mother?? Although Eddie married a girl from Birkenhead, Norah
Perry, their son John, visited Ingleton as much as he could and
thought of it as "home" and married a girl from the
Leek family although she went on later to be called Taylor, from
nearby Bentham. We still have family in both villages but from
my mothers Leek/Taylor side. I know of no other family, for example
did Jack and Flo have siblings and was Alice ? the lady who ran
the fish shop in Liverpool, Jacks sister?

I am trying to trace the family of Joseph Metcalfe who married Harriet Dowson
or Dawson at Beeford in 1850. This couple emigrated to New Zealand in 1851,
but both died within 10 years leaving orphaned children, including my great
grandmother. Their marriage certificate gives his age as 21 years, and fathers
name as James Metcalfe, Gardener. I have found a Joseph Metcalfe baptised March
21st 1830, son of James & Ann Metcalfe of Darley. Also a marriage between
a James Metcalfe and Ann Rhodes in 1825. Harriet Dowson was 23 years old in
1850, father's name Richard Dowson, Labourer. She may have been born in Bridlington
to a Richard Dowson and Sarah Read. Does any-one have any information on these
families? I would very much appreciate any help.

I think Robert was a painter, was born about 1803 in Aldborough & married Mary (Fulton?) in Feb 1830. I have been able to find a Thomas Mortimer who is listed as a painter & paper hanger in Pigot's Directory of 1829 & a John Mortimer, Painter in Directory of 1834, both in Boroughbridge, but have been unable to link them to Robert so far. There are also Mortimer's buried in St. Andrew's Church Aldborough mainly the children of a Thomas & Mary, but no mention of Robert again. Can anyone help me trace any further back?

Mowforth
I have been researching the 'Mowforth' name for nearly 15 years and have had
a good year or two but things are slowing down. I have had very little contact
with people exact through Genes Reunited and most of them have got their info
indirectly or directly through me. So if anyone knows of a 'Mowforth' or any
details relating to them. They appear to have started Cumbria c1600 then moved
across to North/East Yorkshire c1700, c1800, & c1900 though laterly moving
further a field some down to London. They appear to have originated from farming
then moved onto the Railway. They have then moved about because of their jobs.
