Following on from a request some time ago regarding Hall of Holme
Upon Spalding Moor. Robert Hall married Ellen St Paul at Hosm 1863.
I now know that he was born Hackford, near Reepham, Aylsham Dist.,
Norfolk not Swaffham. I know his father and mother Thomas Hall
and Dorothy Mary Ann Juby both of Hackford, Ayl, Norfolk and Robert's
grandfather also Thomas Hall. Does anyone know of Robert and how

I have traced ancestry on my fathers side to Lancelot Gibson (Killingworth
Colliery) 1834. Of his two daughters, one (Eleanor) married Thomas

I am trying to trace the family of Thomas Hannam, b abt 1808, married to Mary
(possibly nee Simpson), b abt 1808 and their two children William, b 1834 & Sarah,
b 1836. Thomas was a miner. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1841 on board the "Whitby" and
Sarah followed with the children on board the "Lloyds" a few months
later. It is possible they were married on 1.12.1832 in St Peters, Leeds.

I'm descended from Francis Harrison, a shoemaker who was born about
1807 in the Hampsthwaite or Dacre Banks area. He and his wife,
Ann Swiers (or Swires) lived in this part of Yorkshire before
emigrating to New York in 1849 with their children. By 1850 they
and their children were living in Keosauqua, Iowa. Francis Harrison

Thanks to a request placed in your magazine a year ago I traced many of my
ancestors, many of whom had moved to America. However I do have a Stanley
Heslop, who seems to have been a bit of a character living in the Reeth area.
Despite finding that he was born in London and is shown as a boarder aged
10 months living with the Woodward family on the 1901 census, I cannot link
him to my family who all originated in Arkengarthdale / Swaledale area. I
would be grateful if anyone could fill in any gaps on Stanley's origins.
ALSO Trying to help an American colleague. Does anyone have any info. on a
John Heslop, baptised in Grinton 19/11/1808, son of Matthew & Nelly (Eleanor)
Heslop. Nelly's maiden name was Carter. Possibly emigrated to America in 1830?

My grandfather was Harold William Read Hoare who during the First World War
ran the Black Horse Inn at Healey Nr Masham. Towards the end of his life
he lodged with a Mrs Boynton at Station Road Masham and finally in Mill Hill
Masham I have his last letter to my dad dated 27.8.47. I wonder if anyone
has any recollection of either the Black Horse Healey or my grandfather or
even old photos of Mill Hill or Healey. I have a very old photo of the Black
Horse which I understand is now a private house and ceased to be a pub around
1945 when I was born.

where I was told my Hobbs family tree came from. My Grandfather Archiebald

My Dad was born in Leeds in 1877. His name was Sidney Addison Hogg, he had
two sisters, Edith and Florence and one brother, Joseph. He came to Canada
in 1912. His parents were Joseph Hogg born 16 March 1844 and his mother was
Emma Bainacoat. Their parents were Thomas Hogg and Elizabeth Longstaff. Dad
served in World War One in Unit H3 Section 3rd DAC Artillery Ammunition Column.
My mother, Hilda Straffon Smithson, was born in Leyburn. Her parents were John
Brown Smithson and Elizabeth Smithson. Our grandfather had a photography shop
and we have so many postcards of pictures he took. They also ran the Wensleydale

John Holden was born in Soyland Yorkshire in about 1791, lived in Halifax,
was married to Hannah (Smith?) and had children Elizabeth b1819, Ruth b1822,
John b1825 and Jonathan b1830.
John migrated to Australia with wife Ann Moore Murray (could be spelt Murry)
and baby Ruth on Duke of Wellington in 1849. They had another son, Harry, before
she died in Adelaide in 1850. I would like to track down the ancestry of Ann
Murray, also from Halifax, Yorks. Any information regarding John Holden's ancestry
would also be appreciated. Elizabeth married William Holt in 1840 and had four

My GGGGrandfather was Captain John Hudson, Master mariner, Whitby, 1700's.
Married Ann Spink his cousin I think. They had a son, one John Holmes Hudson
who resided at Vanburgh Castle in 1835-39 at Greenwich. Then family emigrated
to New Zealand in 1859 on the "Nourmahal" to
settle at Streamlands. He invented baking powder and sold it to "Edmonds" about
1900.

I am looking for any information concerning my grandfather to the tenth. His name was John Hurd and was born in Allerton, Yorkshire, England in 1585 and set sail for Boston, MA. USA in 1639-1640. He died in 1649 in Windsor CT. USA. If anybody has a bit of information I would sincerely appreciate it.

Looking for information on the HUSS family - originally from Derbyshire then
N Yorks (Swaledale). First names known - Josiah (headmaster of school in Gunnerside)
and Percy, his brother (Chapel le Dale?) but there are others maybe still
in Derby area.

Thomas Dixon Hutchinson
is my gggdad born 1841 Otterington, became a tailor trading from Byers Green
Co Durham. I'm trying to trace his parents... anecdotal family story has it
that his father was at Otterington House while his mother was a worker there.
The fathers family would not countenance their marriage and eventually sent
their son to America. Does this ring any bells for anyone? If not is there
anyone who can confirm the owners of Otterington House round this time?

I would be happy to hear from anyone descended from Oliver or
Francis Hutchinson, b. 1798 in Yorkshire; d. 1875 in Whitby, Yorkshire. Francis
married Elizabeth Blackburn in 1827. Their grand-daughter, Elizabeth Cook Green,
eventually immigrated to Peckville or Jessup, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
about 1890.

I have found 4 members of the same family dying within a couple of weeks at
Marske-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire in November 1873. Does anyone know if
there was an epedemic or a disaster at this time which might explain this please?

My father was William Roland Hutchinson born 1910 in Bishop Auckland, Durham.
His parents were John Hutchinson and Maryhelen Dixon. They lived in Mansfield
Edwinstowe, Nottingham. They had connections with Barnsley, South Yorks. I

Hutchinson/Radcliffe
Looking for ancestors of Lydia Radcliffe and Thomas Hutchinson. Thomas was
the son of Robert and Jane Hutchinson. Lydia was the daughter of Jane Barton
and Samuel Radcliffe. They left the Tottington area in 1882 and came to the
US, first in PA and then settling in Trenton, NJ. They were stonecutters in
Britain and were very successful at it in the US. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated as I have hit a brick wall (no pun intended)
