Garbutt
I am trying to trace my family history and I have reached 1853
when my Grandfather was born in Leeds Yorkshire. I think he could have been a soldier. He married Allice Gillum who was born in Pontypool 1863. They had a large family and my father was the youngest and was born in Newport Wales in 1903. My grandfather was named John Henry.

UPDATE: With a lot of help from some very special people I have found that John Henry Garbutt m Alice Gillum in 1884 and by 1901 was a Sgt Major in the army living in Newport, South Wales with Alice and 8 of his 9 children. His parents were William and Elizabeth Garbutt. There were 4 Siblings; William born 1849 Leeds, Yorkshire. Thomas P born 1853 Durham, Darlington. Alice born 1856 Middlesborough. Alfred E born Yorkshire 1861. William's mother was Anne who lived in Northallington. I'd love to find some cousins.

UPDATE: I think that Thomas Garbutt born 1773 could be the father of William Garbutt who was born in 1797. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am researching my grandmother's family on my mother's side. Grandma came from the village of Hutton Cranswick near Beverley. I recall my mother talking of a member of my grandmother's family being the postmaster of the village. My grandmother's maiden name was Jane Gill, and she died in 1961 aged about 82/83. I think she had a brother - Edward -who emigrated to Canada, and there was a connection with Sandy Herd the golfer. My grandmother worked locally in household service before coming down to Kilburn, London, to do the same, where she met and married William Hill, my grandfather.

My husband and I are tracing his family tree. We have come to a standstill. We have been able to trace Robert Grice (born 1807) and Ann Grice (born 1804, don't know maiden name) who came from Langtoft in Yorkshire. We know they left England late 1854 and arrived in Hobart Tasmania from Melbourne on the "Ocean Chief" 25 March 1855. We believe that they left England on the "James Baines" maiden voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne, Australia. There are however no passenger lists available. They travelled to Australia with their four children Laban (b 1836), Dickinson (b 1839), Ellen (b 1843), and Elizabeth (birth unknown). The children were baptised in Rillington. We know they were sponsored out to Australia by a man named Esh Lovell. We cannot find any information on the family before they left Yorkshire. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching my grandmother's family, the Grocock family of Colburn in the Catterick area. Information I have so far is: William Grocock, a blacksmith, married Sara and possibly had seven children. One was Charles, born 1827, my great-grandfather. Charles Grocock, also a blacksmith, married Sarah Robinson of Great Ouseburn an had possibly eight children Anne, Sarah, Hannah, twins Charles and Mary, Emma (1865, my grandmother), William Robert and Elizabeth. Emma emigrated to south Australia, date and ship unknown. Any information, however small, would be greatly appreciated as I only have names and dates.

Grouch
Do a family tree for Gertrude Grouch, from Saltburn, Yorkshire. She married Frederick Wright and I belive this was her second marrige. Do not know first husband, maybe a Grouch as I'm not sure it Grouch is here maiden name. Believed to have come from Saltburn in late 1800' - early 1900.

Guy
I am looking for any info on Thomas Guy (shoemaker) who had a son Walter Guy around 1879 who had a son Sydney Guy
around 1910 and then lived in Huddersfield. Any help with this would be appreciated. Sydney married a Scots girl after the war and moved to the USA to work with Ford Motor Company in Detroit.
