I am trying to trace my family history and I have reached 1853
when my Grandfather was born in Leeds Yorkshire. I think he could
have been a soldier. He married Allice Gillum who was born in Pontypool
1863. They had a large family and my father was the youngest and
was born in Newport Wales in 1903. My grandfather was named John
Henry.
UPDATE: With a lot of help from some very special
people I have found that John Henry Garbutt m Alice Gillum in 1884
and by 1901 was a Sgt Major in the army living in Newport, South
Wales with Alice and 8 of his 9 children. His parents were William
and Elizabeth Garbutt. There were 4 Siblings; William born 1849
Leeds, Yorkshire. Thomas P born 1853 Durham, Darlington. Alice
born 1856 Middlesborough. Alfred E born Yorkshire 1861. William's
mother was Anne who lived in Northallington. I'd love to find some
cousins.
UPDATE: I think that Thomas Garbutt born 1773 could
be the father of William Garbutt who was born in 1797. Any help
is greatly appreciated.

Goulbourn
Just started doing a family tree and it is so addictive and exciting. Become
stuck though with my Great Great Grandfather William Watson born in Skipton
(possibly 1857-1877) and married a Catherine (nee Gilbourne or Goulbourn).
They had a son William Arnold Watson (born about 1896). They all went to live
in Shanghai and when the war was over William Arnold Watson returned to Skipton
to visit and met and married Frances Tilley in about 1919 who had brothers
and sisters, Edward, George, Elsie and Colin. Perhaps some of these names and
details rings a bell with someone? Somewhere along the line there is a Lucy
Watson (opera singer) who went to live in Australia.

Gowland
I am researching my wife's family, the Gowlands of Maunby. In
the 1841 census the name is spelt Gouland. Henry Gowland (born
c1806) and Hannah Belton were married at Kirby Wiske on 13 July
1832 and had a least eight children. These were: George, Elizabeth,
Henry, Thomas, Francis, William, Mary and Robert.
Robert, born in 1844 at Maunby married Catherine
Harrison in 1865 in the Thirsk district. They had five children
of which only Roger and Kate Augusta survived infancy. Catherine
died in 1875 and Robert married Rebecca Stanhope, a close friend
of his late wife in 1876 at Belper Derbyshire. In 1878 Robert & Rebecca
and the two children emigrated to Bundaberg Australia. In a sad
ending both died within days of each other in 1899 and are buried
together in Bundaberg.
In 2002 my wife and I visited Maunby and Kirby Wiske where we
saw the lovely church and grounds where some of the Gowlands are
buried. We returned in 2006 with her brother and his wife but due
to time restraints could only speak to a few of the residents.
Any information on the family will be appreciated.

Graham
I am looking for information on Joseph Graham.
Catherine Proctor/Procter née Graham, 1801-1887, was born in Bentham and lived there until she emigrated to America with her husband William Proctor/Procter and their children in 1853.
Twin boys lived with them, Joseph and Robert Graham born 1828, as did an elderly gentleman called Joseph Graham born about 1754.
I am descended from one of the twins, Joseph, who emigrated with the Proctors/Procters. I'd like to know his relationship to Catherine (aunt? sister?) and the connecting relatives names and details. I'd also like to know what happened to the boys' parents and if Joseph senior was their grandfather or great-grandfather.

My husband and I are tracing his family tree. We have come to a standstill.
We have been able to trace Robert Grice (born 1807) and Ann Grice (born
1804, don't know maiden name) who came from Langtoft in Yorkshire. We know
they left England late 1854 and arrived in Hobart Tasmania from Melbourne
on the "Ocean Chief" 25 March 1855. We believe that they left
England on the "James Baines" maiden voyage from Liverpool to
Melbourne, Australia. There are however no passenger lists available. They
travelled to Australia with their four children Laban (b 1836), Dickinson
(b 1839), Ellen (b 1843), and Elizabeth (birth unknown). The children were
baptised in Rillington. We know they were sponsored out to Australia by
a man named Esh Lovell. We cannot find any information on the family before
they left Yorkshire. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently tracing back my family history and am very keen to trace John Griffiths, a master mariner, who owned a tee-Clipper.
I believe that his son, also a John, was born in approximately 1801 so would guess he would have been born around 1750-1780 but am a little confused as I have a will in my possession which throws the dates a little unless, as many of these families used to do, another John Griffth exists and his son I think of 1801 may be his grandson.
So I am looking for any information relating to John Griffith (and his family), born in the 1700s who was a master mariner and owned a tee-clipper.
